My latest Mix Tape is jam packed with Mod Reggae, Ska, and Soul!!! This mix was mostly influenced by the amazing sounds coming out of Jamaica in the 60’s that Mods in the UK were dancing to all night long in Night Clubs!! It’s also flavored with a pinch of some 70’s reggae and topped off with some Jamaican and American soul, but first lets start from the beginning, 50’s American R&B, was a big influence to the birth of Ska!!! DJ Blue Jay About DJ Blue JayDJ Blue Jay started making mix tapes at a very young age. It all started when I would "borrow" my dad's tape recorder, when he wasn't using it. I would make compilations from other tapes and records, the radio and even the TV. I was one happy camper the one Christmas I received my very own tape recorder!!As I grew older I started making tapes for friends, and of course girls. After graduating High School, I started working at a record store part time and started my career as a VW restoration technician. While I was restoring vintage VW during the day, my nights were spent collecting more music and going out to various underground night clubs. The more I went to night clubs the more I wanted to be the DJ behind the decks, sharing my music with a dance floor. Eventually I landed a weeknight DJ spot spinning Brit pop and 60's. Soon after wards, I was hired by the nightclub to start DJing their Alternative night, on Fridays. It is several years later and I'm still spinning various styles of music from my ever growing music collection. I curtly DJ The Mod Club Edmonton, which is a dance night of Mod Favorites old and new. I also spin every Saturday night at New City Suburbs where I spin the latest Indie Rock, Electro, and remixes. Then every Monday night I DJ at a local pub called Black Dog, were I spin a bit of everything!!! Followers
